Google Business Profile suspended: why it happens and what to do
If your Google Business Profile is suspended, Google thinks it breaks one of its guidelines, and the profile won't show on Google until it's fixed. Find the reason in Google's appeals tool, fix the problem on your profile, then submit one appeal with evidence that your business is real and at that address. Google says reviews take up to five working days.
The rules below come from Google's own help pages, checked on 18 October 2026. The practical tips are ours.

What "suspended" means
Step 1: find out why
Open Google's appeals tool, signed in to the account that manages your profile. For each decision, it shows:
- the date of the decision
- the reason, with a link to the policy Google says you broke
- whether you can appeal, and the status of any appeal
Read the policy before you do anything else. The fix depends on the reason.
Common reasons for a suspension
These come from Google's guidelines for representing your business and its help pages.
| Reason | What Google says |
|---|---|
| Extra words in your business name | Adding taglines, services or locations to your name "could result in the suspension of your Business Profile". Use your real name, as on your shopfront and stationery. |
| A PO box or virtual office | PO boxes aren't acceptable, and a rented address you don't work from isn't eligible. |
| A co-working space without signage | Allowed only with clear signage, staff there in opening hours, and customers received there. |
| A trade showing a home address | If you visit customers rather than them visiting you, Google says you should hide your address and list a service area. |
| Not eligible | A business must meet customers in person during its stated hours. Online-only businesses don't qualify (Google). |
| More than one profile | You can have only one profile for each business (Google). |
| One person, several profiles | A practitioner shouldn't have a profile for each specialism. In a practice with several practitioners, the practice gets its own profile. |
| A restricted Google Account | If the account that manages your profiles is restricted, all its profiles are suspended. |
Big changes can also trigger checks. Google says if you change your business name you might need to verify again, and if you move you must verify again (Google).
Step 2: fix the problem first
Before you appeal, change whatever broke the rule. Take the extra words out of the name, hide a home address, or remove a duplicate profile. Google asks you to make sure your profile follows all its guidelines before you appeal, so fix the cause first.
Step 3: gather your evidence
Google suggests evidence such as (Google):
- official business registration
- a business licence
- tax certificates
- utility bills for the business, such as electricity, phone, water or internet
Check that the business name and address on your documents match your profile. Photos of permanent signage at your premises can help where signage is the issue, as Google's guidelines ask for "permanent fixed signage" if you show an address.
Step 4: submit one appeal
In the appeals tool, select the decision and submit your appeal. Then:
- Upload your evidence within 60 minutes of submitting the appeal (Google).
- Submit once. Google says appeals can only be submitted once (Google), and not to send several for the same issue.
- Wait. Google says reviews and decisions can take up to five working days.
If the appeal is turned down, Google says it may be able to do an additional review, where you can add evidence you didn't include the first time.
UK businesses can also use the appeals tool for rejected profile edits and restricted photos, videos or posts, not only suspensions (Google).
What not to do
- Don't create a new profile for the same business. Google says this clearly, during an appeal and after.
- Don't send repeat appeals for the same decision.
- Don't pay anyone who says they can get Google to reinstate you. Google says it "will never try to convince you to pay" to have a profile verified or reinstated (Google). Help with the paperwork is one thing. A promise of a guaranteed result is a warning sign.
- Don't let an agency claim your profile without your consent. Google's rules say third parties must have the owner's express consent, and breaking them can suspend the profile (Google).
Not a suspension: fake review restrictions
There's a separate penalty for fake reviews. Google says businesses that break its fake engagement policy can be stopped from receiving new reviews for a period, have existing reviews unpublished, or show a warning to customers that fake reviews were removed (Google). Google notifies owners by email, and you can appeal. Our guide to your Google review link covers the rules on asking for reviews.

What does it mean when a business is suspended on Google?
The profile has been taken off Google Search and Maps because Google believes it breaks a guideline.
My Google Account has been suspended. What should I do?
